The 1972 wrecked Super Beetle, void of an engine, transmission and interior, has been renovated and given new life as a grill and named, Hootie. The birth of this project began in the minds-eye of staff member, Mike Hartung. Mike has the unique ability of seeing things for what they could become, not for what they are today. Just as we see each of our students when they arrive, rock bottom, hopele
ss and lost; Mike saw the same in the Bug. The renovation project has been ongoing for several years, which has allowed many of our male students the opportunity to participate in the rebuilding and bringing new life to the once wrecked automobile. What makes “The Beach Bug” so cool? We push a remote control and the entire top half of the bug raises up about seven feet into the air showing off the stainless steel grill mounted inside. We’ll be servin’ up hotdogs, drinks and more. The Beach Bug will be used at various local fund-raising events to promote awareness of Teen Challenge. Not only do we want to use this for our own purposes, we will be allowing other organizations to use it as well. We now offer sno cones or popcorn machine. We do all the work for you!
