Greetings! This is Chad Edwards, founder and lead consultant of Elite ELDT. Thank you so much for your interest in this business! Just over twenty years ago, I attended the truck driver training program at North Georgia Technical College. I was 23 at the time and I couldn’t wait to get out on the open road and see the country! My teacher was a man by the name of Jimmy Hill. When learning how to drive on the road, I’d get so nervous riding in the truck while other students struggled to shift gears and ran over curbs, totally clueless of what they were doing. I remember thinking, “There’s no way I’d want Mr. Hill’s job! ” Fast-forward twenty years and here I am doing just what I used to pity Jimmy for having to do.
Since graduating from college and earning my CDL, I’ve gone back and forth between teaching positions and commercial driving jobs, often feeling like I’m bouncing from one extreme to another. However, those two very different skill sets merged into one and things fell perfectly into place for me three years ago when I was hired as the director for a new truck driving program in Georgia. I wish so much that I could reach out to Mr. Hill and tell him where I am now, but sadly he passed away a few years ago.
Mr. Hill is well known in northeast Georgia, as he trained many commercial drivers through the years. He was also very well liked. Jimmy was a tough shorter man, he would get onto you like a drill instructor, but then crack a smile. When students would forget to turn off the blinker, he would tell them they were going to run out of blinker fluid!
After many years of bouncing back and forth between teaching and trucking, I am now settled right here in the middle, precisely where I’m needed most. The transportation industry needs quality drivers now more than ever.....and I am here to help equip them with such. I created Elite ELDT, not just to train drivers, but to provide businesses with the absolute best commercial driver training solutions in the industry.
