I would like to tell you a little about me, my qualifications, and my business! After completing my service in the Army in 1980, I traveled to California and pursued a job at Mark & Bloom where they were hiring and training mechanics. At first they were reluctant to hire me, but after three months of calling them daily they finally relented and gave me a chance to prove myself. My boss at the time
, a man named Gary Shimmer, called me into his office and told me I had three months to prove I deserved to work there and then I would earn a salary based on commission. He admitted he didn't think I'd make it! I proved them wrong! I became one of their best brake and front end mechanics they had out of approximately 60 stores in northern California. They promoted me to Service Manager and soon I was being floated between stores. Every store they put me in did better in sales and service because of my strong belief that THE CUSTOMER COMES FIRST!!! Like many modern automotive repair chains, my company wanted me to replace and sell the customers parts that they did not need. Despite this mandate, I insisted that my employees only recommend and sell the parts the customers actually needed - no extras! I have carried that belief with me, and even today I will sell you only what you need and will not only tell you why you need it, but I will SHOW YOU on YOUR VEHICLE why you need it as well! In 1986 I moved back to my hometown of Fort Covington, NY. By 1998 Smith Auto & Tire was open and doing front end repairs, brakes, tires, exhausts, alignments, etc. I know what it's like to not have much, and my goal is to save everyone money on all their repairs. At my shop I will never sell something to you that you don't need and I will always strive to charge you the lowest and fairest labor costs you will find compared to all the other local repair shops! I don't want my customers paying too much elsewhere when there is no reason to spend that much to repair their cars!
