The 2026 Cup Karts Summer Nationals is in the books!
Mac Schlabach raced in the Sportsman class. She was improving each session but wasn’t getting the results she wanted. She started the final in 15th and was able to move up to finish in 8th. We were so proud of her!
Mason Surgener was up and down all weekend in Senior Medium. He started the final in 33rd and made his way up to the 20th position.
Alex Zakusilo was impressing us all weekend long. In Medium he was to qualify P2 out of 46 entries. They split the class into 2 groups and Alex was able to capture the win in heat one. In heat two he got shuffled off and was able to make his way back to finish 5th.
In the final he would be starting in the third position against some of the top talent in the country!! It had been raining off and on most of the day and it looked like we were going to have a wet final! When we made our way to the grid we were still seeing water spray off of the tires. It had stopped raining but we still had water spray. I made decision that we were sticking with wets. They had shorten the length of the race and I was feeling that was the best option. More delays and the track was starting to dry and it turned out that I made the wrong decision. I believe that Alex had the speed to possibly win his first national event. He has come so far in just a short time! I couldn’t be more proud of him! Alex, I am sorry for letting you down.
Alex also raced in Senior Heavy. He was driven off on the opening lap and came back to finish seventh in heat race. He also set the fastest lap of the race! In heat two he was wrecked on the opening lap in turn 2. He was driven over and got his leg run over dropping out of the race. They didn’t get the race completed on Saturday and he was able to restart in the back on Sunday. On a wet track it was hard to make up many spots but was still able to start the final from the 8th position. In the final he was up and down and ultimately finished in the sixth position.
