Do you have an oil leak? Not sure how bad it is? Wonder if it can cause you more issues?

For commercial motor vehicles in the United States, an oil or grease leak is a direct violation of 49 CFR § 396.5(b) (Lubrication) under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR). Severe or active leaks that pose a fire hazard, risk contaminating brake linings, or threaten unsafe operations can also be cited under 49 CFR § 396.3(a)(1) (Parts and accessories in safe and proper operating condition) or 49 CFR § 396.7 (Unsafe operations forbidden).

Come by today and let us get your leaks repaired!!

A cheap oil change doesn't do much to help with consistent maintenance on your truck. Most of them only change your oil and oil filter while using a house brand oil to keep the cost low.

Here at Southern Truck Repair, we perform a comprehensive "Full Wet PM". This includes quality oil, oil filter, all required fuel filters, air filters and greasing. An inspection of the truck is also done to look for any oil leaks, air leaks, brake pad and drum wear, tire wear or any other visible signs of stress on your truck.

Our goal is to keep your truck healthy and everyone safe out on the roads. Call today to schedule your PM!

The diesel engines found in most commercial trucks are known for being highly durable, but that does not mean they can go without regular maintenance. Engines that are overused and undermaintained can fail without much warning, and leave you stranded on the highway. Signs of a failing engine include reduced gas mileage, decreased horsepower, and being unable to reach and maintain high speeds.

You can preserve your diesel truck engine by cleaning the diesel particulate filter, the oxidation catalyst, and the after-treatment fuel injector on a frequent basis. You should also remember to stay on top of those regular oil changes.

Come by and visit us today for a full oil change today!

Common Semi-Truck Issues that we can help you with in a very timely manner:

Brake Problems: Worn brake pads or air brake system issues reduce braking power. These issues require immediate attention.

Engine Troubles: Overheating and oil leaks reduce a truck’s performance and reliability. When dealing with engine issues, pull over to a safe place to decide how to proceed.

Transmission Issues: Slipping gears or strange noises can indicate a serious issue with the drivability of the truck.

Electrical System Failures: Faulty wiring or battery problems are common problems that can compromise safety and cause other damage to the truck.

Tire Wear and Damage: A tire blowout is one of the most common emergencies faced by drivers. Commercial tire maintenance, such as checking air pressure and tire tread wear before any trip can reduce the number of tire blow-outs.

We have a lot of folks that tend to get confused when it come to DOT inspections. Especially the difference between Texas Commercial DOT inspections and Federal DOT inspections. Here is a handy bit of information to help clarify some of that....

Interstate vs. Intrastate: Federal DOT inspections typically apply to interstate operations, while Texas inspections ensure vehicles operating within the state are roadworthy. However, the FMCSA approves the Texas inspection program to satisfy federal requirements.

More information can be found at both websites for Texas Department of Public Safety and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
