Hollow core fiber (HCF) is rapidly transitioning from lab research into field trials and early operational deployments. Properties such as lower attenuation, reduced latency, and less signal distortion make HCF especially attractive, particularly for data center interconnect (DCI), high-speed metro and long-haul networks, and other latency sensitive network applications. Autonomous networks cannot be built around the RAN alone. The transport layer plays a role in every network flow, from monitoring call performance to maintaining service-level agreements. Unlike many RAN issues, however, the impact of a transport problem may extend far beyond a single location.

One way to think about it is that the RAN is the visible front gate, while transport is the building behind it. Understanding the entrance is important, but operators need visibility across the entire structure to build a true end-to-end view of the network.

In a conversation with Fierce Network at DTW Ignite, VIAVI explored how advances in digital twin technology, AI models and accelerated computing are helping make that view possible.
