With the impending winter storm, we’ve been asked to help get the word out regarding what can happen in Shippensburg. IF/WHEN a State of Emergency or Disaster Emergency is issued by the state of Pennsylvania, the designated Snow Emergency Routes become active. What that means is:
In Shippensburg, PA, a declared winter weather emergency requires all vehicles to be removed from designated snow routes within eight hours to facilitate plowing.
Emergency Snow Routes - Parking Prohibition (Both Sides Unless Noted)
Affected streets include:
•King St (Entire Borough)
•Earl St (Burd St to Orange St)
•Orange St (Entire Borough)
•Burd St (N. Queen St to Roxbury Rd)
•N. Prince St (Entire Borough)
•Fort St (Northern side only)
•Stewart Pl (inner loop).
***Violators may be ticketed or towed***
Important Information:
Duration: Vehicles must be removed within 8 hours of the emergency declaration.
Parking Options: Public parking is available at the Firefighter's Activity Center (35 W. Orange St), W. Burd St, Memorial Park, and the Borough Office (111 N. Fayette St).
Pay attention to news broadcasts so that you know if and when a state of emergency is issued. If you do not move your vehicle from the designated snow emergency routes, it can, and likely will be towed at YOUR expense. Avoid the hassle and cost of it all, and make sure you’re parked where you have permission and are legal to do so.
And as always, if you don’t have to be out on snow covered roads, please just stay home for your safety, as well as for safety of all the first responders that only have to be out, in these cases, to assist distressed motorists.
