Among the maintenance items that are all to often overlooked are spark plugs. Some "news sources" loudly proclaim that "modern vehicles don't need tune ups". Well,those sources are wrong. While a far cry from having points,condenser,and spark plugs replaced every year or two,modern vehicles still do require spark plug replacement. The mileage intervals vary by vehicle make,model and year so it is best to consult your owner's manual maintenance section or your trusted auto repair professional. Along with spark plug replacement,a fuel induction service should be done to remove carbon from intake valves,throttle bodies and intake manifolds. This helps your engine breathe. Not saying that this water pump would have made it beyond 200,000 miles with regular cooling system maintenance,but it couldn't hurt. This is an example of why regular cooling system flushes are necessary,particularly on older vehicles that came from the factory with silicate coolant in them,or that have had questionable mixes of coolant and water in them over the years.
