Stress cracks above a slide room are a common repair on fifth wheels. These cracks are most commonly only in the outer wall, but occasionally on the interior wall, above or below a slide room opening. Most manufacturers only weld the aluminum structure on 2 of the 4 sides, allowing for some flex. The composite wall panels are then glued to the aluminum structure. Unfortunately, composite does NOT flex, it breaks.

We first make the repairs to the composite walls, place a relief cut, fill the relief cut with sealant to prevent water intrusion, and glue in the expansion joint. The area is then painted to match and finished with sealant.

This is an issue that is close to my heart. Although I have not served, my father did. His service shaped the man he would become and the father and grandfather he was. He was sent to Vietnam at the age of 17, weighing only 92 pounds and was given a life expectancy of 17 seconds. He would go on to live another 56 years and become a father of 2 and grandfather of 6 .

My family spent much of the last 2 years of my dad’s life at the VA for dialysis or chemo infusions or financial aid appointments. During his extended stays, we all made sure to see him every single day until he came home. During those visits the other veterans offered cookies and candies and popcorn to our children, helped with their school work, prayed with my dad, and always tried to lift us up during the most difficult time of our lives to date.

I took my dad to the store one day about 1 month before he passed away. He was wearing a Vietnam War Veteran cap that his friend had given him. As we were leaving the store, a man came up to thank him for his service, and for the first time in my life, I witnessed my dad hold back tears. When I got him in the car, he said, “I always felt ashamed of going to Vietnam, like we had to hide it, but it is like people appreciate us now.” One simple kindness changed his last month.

This is a community that we care deeply for and we wanted our military discount to be as meaningful as we can. A small chance to thank you for everything- for being there for us, for supporting my dad, and for sacrificing so much.

No gimmicks, no fine print.
