Manage Your Stress to Combat Illness

Stress is inevitable in these troubled times, but keeping it under control is soo important for making sure your immune system is ready to fight off infection. There are many ways to manage stress:

1) Breathing – this sounds like a no-brainer, but people often breath very shallowly under stress. Taking deep, full breaths helps to lower stress hormones and simulates your vagus nerve to calm down your entire nervous system. Deep breathing also brings more oxygen into your cells so they can produce ATP. This is the energy your cells need to use in order to trigger your immune system to fight off invaders

2) Light Exercise – the last thing your body needs right now is to be taxed beyond what is normal for you, but gentle movement like walking, yoga, and pilates helps your body get rid of excess toxic stress hormones.

3) Drink Water – the last thing your body needs right now is the extra stress of dehydration. Water helps to flush out all the extra junk in you system and helps your nervous system function optimally

4) EFT – Emotional Freedom Technique, AKA Tapping, is scientifically proven to lower cortisol within 1-2 minute and adrenalin within 6-8 minute. This may look funny, but by tapping these acupuncture points on your face and body, you are hitting the release valve on the pent up stress in your body and getting it out!

5) Correcting Your Energy – we all get blocks in our body, sometimes emotional, mental, and spiritual blocks need to be released from the body in order for your organs to function correctly. What you think and feel manifests in your body and is just as important as the physical stuff

Give Your Body a Fighting Chance Against Coronavirus!

There has been a lot of fear and anxiety going around about this virus, and with good reason, but it is so important to keep out feet solidly on the ground particularly in time like these. So let’s review the things we know: this virus is targeting the elderly, those with compromised immune systems, those who already have a disease, and those with respiratory weaknesses.

The good news is there are simple things you can do to put your immune system in a better position to ward off this nasty little invader.

1) Manage Your Stress!!!! – This is a scary time and the world feels like it is going crazy, however, stress depresses your immune system at a physical level. Stress puts your body into a state of fight or flight – this is super important if you are fighting a bear, but supremely unhelpful when you are fighting a virus. 70% of your immune system is in your gut, and your gut function is turned off when you are in flight/flight. In order for your immune system to work it’s best, you need to be as calm as possible. I will be posting more tips on how to accomplish this later

2) Keep your body in alignment – this goes right along with managing stress. Your nervous system is in control of the rest of your body, including your immune system. Optimal alignment and balance of your bones and muscles is essential for your nervous system to work it’s best. There are several ways this can be done, more on that to come.

3) Sleep – this seems like a no-brainer, but in stressful times when we are all concerned for our health, our jobs, the economy, and the schools on top of all our normal stress, sleep can be a challenge. But sleep is when your body heals; most notably your adrenal glands (which control your fight/flight response) and your liver (which helps you get rid of junk your body needs out in order to heal)

4) Heat – the reason people with this virus get a high fever is because that is how your body fights back, the higher you can keep your core temperature, the better your chances are of kicking this thing before it even gets a hold. Take hot baths, drink hot beverages, use heating pads and blankets, and if you still have access to a sauna, us that thing

5) Supplement for Immune Support – more of that to come later as well but most notably for now, make sure you are getting vitamin A, D, and K. These are the primary supporters of the immune system and they work together, so you need all three

You Neck Could Be Squeezing Your Brain!

Did you know that your brainstem actually reaches down into the 3rd bone in your neck? That means the if the top 2 bones in your neck, better known as the atlas and axis, are out of alignment you are actually squeezing your brainstem? That sounds scary right? I mean the brainstem controls really important things necessary to live, but it also controls the muscle tone in your entire body. That means that if those bones are out of place, all of your muscles are going to tighten up! I have good news! By fixing the muscles that cause these bones to twist, I can make your whole body feel better!

Did you know that jaw pain is often directly related to your pelvis being out of whack?

When your pelvis is not where it should be, there is a strain that is created that runs all the way up to your head and actually pulls those bones out of place too! It’s like setting a filled–to–the brim glass of water on a table where one leg is ½ inch shorter than the others and expecting the water to stay in the glass. Not going to happen! Nobody likes to be in pain! It keeps you from doing the activities you love, enjoying the company of friends and family, and focusing on the things that matter. It’s a distraction and a burden, but I have good news; you don’t have to live with pain!

Hi my name is Alta and I’m a Neurosomatic Therapist; now I know that sounds like a crazy and complicated title, but it’s really very simple. I treat pain by using a very detailed form of posture assessment to find the muscles that pull your body out of its natural alignment, and then I give your body the freedom it needs to realign itself but treating those muscles.

It breaks my heart to see someone needlessly struggle with pain that takes up valuable energy and focus that they could be using to do what they really love with the people they love, and feeling overwhelmed and isolated from the people around them as a result. And nothing makes me happier that to see my clients regain that spark of excitement, energy, and vitality that comes from living a life freed from the pain and fatigue that brought them to me and hopeful about life again.
