Had a little bump in the road. Yesterday, while hiking up the Fern Canyon in the Redwoods Dianne did a number on her ankle. Not broken but after spending the majority of the morning in an Urgent Care in Eureka she was given a boot to wear for perhaps the next couple weeks. So much for our hiking activities. We then drove down through the Napa Valley and decided to take a break for a day or two, regroup, hopefully heal up a bit and then move forward from there.

Welcome to California. Luckily we topped off the gas tank before arriving in CA. We finished the trip down the Oregon coast and stopped in Crescent City CA. REDWOODS tomorrow. Saw an interesting sight. A port, two ocean going cargo ships, and all these logs. Logging is serious business in this neck of the woods.

Yesterday we took a slow ride from Tacoma down to Astoria Or. Think "Goonies" filmed in that town. And then on to Lincoln City Or. We'll be making our way down the coast over the next couple of days

Crossed Minnesota and into Wall SD for trip to Badlands and hopefully Mt Rushmore tomorrow. Not a lot along the way but the lay of the land is impressive in South Dakota. Open for just about as far as the eye can see. For little diversion we stopped at the Corn Palace. (The murals inside and out are made of actual ears of corn and other natural items.) And a little ho-ho-ho! We've passed through two time zones in two days. At this rate in another day or so it will be yesterday

We started the morning on a two day trip to South Dakota. We had a little setback,, learning that the radio system in the car, along with the Bluetooth, OnStar and Onstar Navigation were not working. And to top it off while the radio was on real low it could not be turned off. After consulting with our service department at Sawyer Chevrolet it was recommended that we get to the next Chevy dealership to see if they could correct the issue. Which they did! Thank you Tanya and the technician at Riverside Chevy, Buick & GMC - Escanaba for taking us right in and getting the issue resolved withing about 30 minutes. We traveled from northern Michigan, into Wisconsin, and then began to go across Minnesota before stopping for the day. Just a couple observations. First, and especially as we made our way in Minnesota was the millions upon millions of acres, sometimes as far as the eye could see over the relatively flat terrain, of corn and soy beans. Almost bewildering just how much is being grown there. The other was a field, as learned online, of 67 windmills for generation of electricity. Literally everywhere you looked on both sides of the highway and as far as you can see were these windmills.

For years I have had the itch to go "Cross Country." For the last few years, with more than one delay along the way I have been planning to make that trip. Well....now it's time to "See the USA in My Chevrolet." My wife, Dianne and I will be taking off this coming weekend with a plan to see several of our national parks with stops in a few cities. Our trip will take us across the northern tier of the country, down the west coast, the desert southwest and then down to Florida before heading back north. We hope to stop and spend a little time in San Francisco, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Key West and Orlando. I'm hoping to get some pictures posted along the way. Follow along with us... We'll be back sometime in mid-October
