Some Tesla Model Y customers are looking for a more compliant ride. While there are a number of high quality aftermarket solutions out there, installation of the upgraded 2025 Juniper Release Model Y shocks, struts and springs provides a high value solution. The part set runs about $900 and some change at the Tesla dealer and bolts right in. We've performed a few of these and every customer has said the ride is greatly improved. So far, the base and long range models are supported. The set can be installed on a performance model, but the result will be an increase of 1/2"-1" in ride height vs stock.

Do tires really age out? Tires have a useful life of 5-6 years and after that, the rubber begins to harden and the tires lose their grip, become noisier and may start to crack. Left long enough and they may blow out. Most daily drivers will wear out the tread before the tires age out, but seldom driven classic / custom / collector cars often have tires that have nearly full tread, but are prone to cracking and perhaps a blow out. Check out this tire - plenty of tread and even has the molding nubbins as when new. But, cracking is evident between the tread blocks and when the sidewall is stressed, you can see all the small cracks appear. Chunks of the sidewall broke off during demounting. Good thing these were replaced!

Two dodge vipers in the shop this week! How cool is that? Nick freshened up the alignment on the Blue one, while David works his way through replacing all of the control arm bushings on the Silver roadster.

Nate is busy installing an Xclutch and single mass flywheel in a 2023 Corolla GR - this kit supports up to 440 ft / lbs of torque and offers 35% more clamping force vs stock. An upgraded engine mount and fluid damper are being installed to help offset the increased NVH from a single mass flywheel.

Just some of the cool cars flowing through the shop! A blast from the past - '87 Buick Grand National got refreshed brakes and steering components followed by a crisp alignment. Full on S2000 built as all out HPDE vehicle - lots of spherical bushings, roll center correction ball joints, sway bars, steering upgrades and a spot on alignment. BRZ alignment shown with driver ballast and one of our favorite BMW's back for an alignment refresh.

The winter weather is behind us at least for now. We had an interesting Audi A3 repair due to the Ice. The vehicle spun on the ice and struck something with the left rear wheel, snapping the rotor ring off the hub, bending the hub rention bolt and snapping off the mount in the knuckle. The vehicle arrived with a left rear wheel wobbling badly - it looked like 5 degrees positive or negative camber and toe as it rolled and depending where it stopped. Wild stuff! The fine folks at Audi of Cary were awesome in helping us get the parts ASAP and get the customer safely back on the road!

The shop has been super busy and packed with projects that our team is working to complete. This awesome '56 TBird was in to have the original failing generator replaced by an alternator (in same vintage appearance as the generator), a rewire of the charging system, and removal of an aftermarket AC system to return to a more original interior and engine compartment. The original 312 Y block runs really well. The radiator had to come out to remove the condenser and run the wiring harness.

This very nice 1968 F100 with 390FE motor and C6 auto that we recently lowered was back for installation of a posi-traction unit in the 9" Ford rear end. We reused the stock 3.73 gears which showed no wear, cleaned everything, installed all new bearings and seals. Back on the road, the rear end is smooth and quiet and ready for further powertrain upgrades ahead.

Our shop was pleased to host Tarheel Sports Car Club for a tech day today. The THSCC members are super knowledgeable and always great fun to hang out with. We saw a wide range of cars heading to the track from a super nice turbo charged Miata with Wilwood brakes, to BMWs, Camaros, VW's, several Porsches, a C8, some trailered race cars and even a Polestar and Tesla. EV's can be fun too!
