🏍️ HARLEY HISTORY TUESDAY | 1957 SPORTSTER

1957 marked the beginning of a Harley-Davidson legend. 🔥

The original XL Sportster brought a lighter, sportier machine to the lineup, powered by the 55-cubic-inch overhead-valve V-Twin that would become known as the Ironhead.

It didn’t take long for the Sportster to make a name for itself. From racetracks and drag strips to backroads and custom builds, the Sportster became a favorite for riders who wanted performance with unmistakable Harley-Davidson attitude.

Nearly seven decades later, the Sportster name has earned its place in motorcycle history. 🏁

🏍️ HARLEY HISTORY TUESDAY | 1936 KNUCKLEHEAD

Before the Panhead… there was the Knucklehead. 👊

In 1936, Harley-Davidson introduced the Model EL and a 61-cubic-inch overhead-valve V-Twin that would help shape the future of the Motor Company.

And that legendary name? “Knucklehead” wasn’t actually its official name. Riders gave it the nickname because the rocker covers looked like the knuckles of a clenched fist.

Even more impressive — Harley-Davidson brought this machine to life during the Great Depression, when introducing an entirely new motorcycle was a serious gamble.

The gamble paid off.

The Knucklehead ran from 1936–1947, paving the way for the Panhead that followed in 1948 and helping establish the Big Twin legacy Harley riders still know today.
