Campground/RV Resort Name: Apple Island Resort

Camper Rating: 4-Campers

Campground/RV Website: https://appleislandresort.com/

Campground/RV Resort Location (City/State): 71 US-2, South Hero, Vermont 05486 (Burlington)

Dates/Month Visited: (October) Columbus Day Weekend 2018

Site: MF18

W/E/S/C/I: All

Amenities: Golf Club, General Store, Fitness Center, Pool, Community Center, and Marina which is located in the heart of the Champlain Islands. RV sites with both 50 amp and 30 amp hookups, charming country cottages, rustic cabins, and tent sites.

What’s was great: We were there for Columbus day weekend, and they had a Craft Fair with great vendors, and some Fall Fun! The kids loved the Pony Rides & Hay Rides by Breakaway Farms. The weather was dry but fairly chilly that weekend, and the park was quiet. We truly loved our view and stayed toasty at the fire while the kids played at the park and games in the camper. They had a wonderfully stocked store stocked store with fresh baked goods and a deli. When it was very cold on Sunday and we needed more wood, even know the store was closed they staff went out of their way to deliver us more, and let us pay before we checked out the next day. We loved the proximity to Burlington. The kids loved going to Ben and Jerry's, Echo and Church Street downtown!

What isn’t great: For the kids a bigger playground would be nice, especially for the fall days when your unable to swim in the lake or pool!

Best Sites: MF and AB Sections. All the Platinum sites are nice, but many of them are pull in Class A, B, C sites.

Worst Sites: There are not really any bad sites, the Gold sites are more in the back without a view, and mostly seemed to be seasonal.

Best for: Adults, Families - Adults w/teenagers, Adults/small children, Retired, Around the Country RV, Disability Accessibility)

Additional Comments: The only reason we gave this resort 4 campers only we wish there was more pull through sites for travel trailers with a water view. It is a beautiful location, the staff was amazing! We wish it had been a little warmer for us, but we truly enjoyed the view and the beautiful sunsets, wine by the toasty fire, and a location that had so many activities to offer in the area for the little's. We would love to do another trip here!

Internet:
If you are looking to unplug this park is a great place to do it!
They do have internet in the park but our phones worked better when we didn't use it.
They do have an independent company, you pay via a log-in for better service.
For the nightly price they should consider offering better internet service within the park, as the phone service was also very spotty.

What’s was great:

Check In: "dRVtip" Highly recommend taking advantage of the Pony Express. You will get and email from FT a few days prior to your check in.

This is overall a great RV resort, and deserves the name resort. We planned to stay for 7 but ended up staying for 8-nights. W even had to move sites for that last night. And we still didn't get a chance to do everything in the campground.

We only left for one night to visit the boardwalk and have dinner and one other night just for dinner at the Assateague Crab House.

Our kids didn't even want to leave to even go to the beach, which they love.

The water park was great for our kids who are 7, and 4. The park was also small enough for us that we could see and have the kids check in and not have to chase them from one end to the other. There are two older slides - must be 42" and then three new slides which I have to say are super fun! Two of them are 42" and one is 48". They also have a lazy river and the littles pool which is very big and our son loved. It would be great if there were some intermediate slides for the littles.

The pool is a great size and not for a lack of chairs. It would be great if they would move the tables to the left hand side of the pool so parents looking for shade can see the entire pool.

They have a great camp store with deli. They have THE BEST PANCAKES!

The camp store is very well stocked and reasonably priced. Just don't take the kids up tipsy because then it will get real expensive!

You can buy seafood right off the pier and they have a produce stand with plenty to chose from. This was an added bonus.

We look forward to going back next year .

Restaurants:
The Pool Side Bar: All we need to say is "The Bucket"!!!
The Orange Crush was our favorite.

The Pool Side Grill: Was great if you want to grab the usual lunch of burgers, dogs, pizza, fries etc. Very convenient in the park.

Assateague Crab House
Fun atmosphere, food was great - other than the seasoning they use on their crabs had clove and cinnamon in it and one of us happens to be allergic. Nothing a Benadryl couldn't handle.
A great location to FT, the service was good and the kids loved the decor and game room.

Beaches:
We went to Assateague State Park Beach which was great. The sand is soft on your feet, clean, and you can still find some shells

There is a fee to enter - "dRVtip" Veterans, and Active Duty Military/Maryland National Guard are free, kids in car seats are free. So it only costs us $6. The day-use area has a camp store/gift shop, concession stand and a bathhouse with warm showers. Lifeguards are on duty in the beach area from 10 am to 5 pm from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The day-use area is open from 7 am to sunset.

We took the shuttle to the boardwalk which the kids thought riding in the school bus was super fun! We walked, ate and danced and played at Ocean City beach under the night lights which also play music, but never made it back to the beach during the day. So we will have to update that in our 2019 OC review.

What isn’t great?
This is a big park which allows for many amenities and is spread out. There are a lot of golf carts, cars and bike all moving in the same spaces and can sometimes feel like a game of Frogger moving from one place to another.

We brought our bikes and had a great time riding within the park. Our daughter who just came of training wheels earlier this summer did great. Do your best to be courteous of others, but you will always find some that are just not.

"dRVtip" They have a great bike path from the back of the park to the front where you find the water park, rope course, frontier town, ice cream and arcade.

Sites:
W-10 was the only site they had left when we booked this year.

We were super lucky it was a great site with amazing neighbors that we look forward to camping with again!

We moved over to Y13 for one night to extend our stay.

Next year we will all be over in the JJ section.

Favorite Sites: W7, 8, 9, 10, 12. These I feel are the best location for our kids as you were close to all the activities in the pavilion.

See Frontier Town Photo Album for more pictures!

W/E/S/C/I?: Yes

Internet: Yes, provided by an independent company, you pay via a log-in

What’s was great: They have great specials - mid week rate, buy 5 get 6! We love the location as it falls between Cape May and Wildwood. The staff is great and always friendly. This park looks bigger on the map than it is. The first year, we rented bikes from Geared Up Rentals, although the park is very walk able. It does have seasonal sites with park models, with new glamping tents and tiny houses, as well as cabin rentals. We have had family stay in all the rentals, and they were great. The Dog park is great for Fido. The playground was nice and bonus it was fenced in. The pools were great and never to hot since they are directly in the sun – bonus they are Saltwater. The bathroom laundry facilities are very nice, they do charge .25$ for 4 minutes for showers.

Places we love: Morey Piers, Cape May Fish Market, The Crab House, The Boathouse, Harpoon's By the Bay, and H&H Seafood. The Aviation Museum is amazing, and super fun for the kids!

Favorite Beaches: The beach across from Harpoon's By the Bay and Wildwood at 15th Street. If you love big wave Cape May.

Sign up for their mailing list and they email out the specials!

What isn’t great? Nothing comes to mind from our last 4 visits that I could complain about, and I usually can find something!

Our Favorite Sites: H-12, H-9, H-53
