This Humpback whale was giving us a round of applause for following all regional whale watching guidelines! Whale SENSE ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿ‘
For FIVE minutes straight, this whale repeatedly slapped its long white pectoral fins against the surface while two other whales were nearby! Humpback whales have the longest pectoral fins of any other cetacean, reaching up to one-third of their total body length! When you view wildlife respectfully, you are often rewarded with amazing encounters ๐Ÿ’™

Have you ever wondered what its like to join a pelagic trip off Cape May? While many of us are familiar with the marine life found along our coastline, the pelagic environment holds an incredible diversity of wildlife that is often under explored. Through our research and pelagic trips aboard the American Star, we have the opportunity to explore these pelagic waters and share this experience with others. Thank you to Cape May Magazine for giving us the opportunity to highlight this fascinating part of Cape May's ecosystem!

Weโ€™ve had a busy past few days putting our mission of research, education, and conservation into action at the Cape May Whale Watch & Research Center!
๐Ÿ‹ We spent several days observing two different humpback whales lunge feeding off Cape May alongside our passengers. We recorded data while sharing the importance of New Jersey's productive feeding grounds for our marine life. We collected two more floating balloons from our ocean for our .
๐Ÿ“š We partnered with and the to introduce middle school students to marine mammal species and research through hands-on photo-identification activities.
๐ŸฌThrough our nonprofit, the Cape May Marine Mammal Research Center, we completed a dedicated research survey for bottlenose dolphins, collecting additional data and photographs to support our ongoing research.
Whether you're joining us aboard the American Star, participating in an educational program, or supporting our research, thank you for being part of our mission! ๐Ÿ’™

Our inshore Bottlenose dolphin sighting yesterday coincided with the annual Wildwood Air Show. A pod of our local dolphins were heading North through the show before we headed further offshore searching for whales. Our September sunsets never disappoint!
