Several of us in the C8 community know about the optional factory underbody heat extractors, so we decided to test the theory ourselves by designing and 3D-printing our own version.
The results were honestly impressive. On a 91° day, without the heat extractors installed, we recorded:
* Oil temps at 199°
* Underhood temps at 144°
After installing the heat extractors:
* Oil temps dropped to 179°
* Underhood temps dropped to 122°
That’s a massive reduction in heat soak and overall thermal load, especially for cars that see spirited driving, track time, or hot summer traffic. Cooler oil temps mean more consistent performance and less stress on the engine over time.
Now for Phase 2.
We’re currently developing our new “Power Scoops” system to further improve airflow and cooling efficiency on the C8 platform. We’ll be looking for a couple of C8 owners willing to help test prototypes and provide real-world feedback.
