Well after a whirlwind season of some highs and lows I just want to thank every driver, owner, crew member, and family member for an unbelievable season!!! Last night's race was every series owners unicorn race!! Although we only had four cars, it was the best race I have seen in a very long time in any series!! Danny Burns led the field to the green in the qualifier with Tyler Stark to his outside. Clay Dow was inside the second row with Mark Cole beside him. Danny Burns led the first four laps with Stark in tow just waiting to pounce if a mistake was made by rookie Burns in his first season racing any type of car. Clay Dow and Mark Cole were swapping positions at each end of the track while pressuring Stark to make a mistake. Remember only three points separated Cole and Dow so every position counted for each of them. With racing this close something had to give, unfortunately the two point leaders made contact and brought out a caution with Mark Cole sitting on top of Clay Dow in turn one. The old saying ( you can't beat experience) showed true, not the fact there was contact but the fact that both drivers had more than enough experience to do it so gracefully no damage was done to either car and were both able to continue. On the restart Stark found the bite and powered past Burns to the lead. Burns kept putting his bid in to take the lead back while defending his position from Dow and Cole who were still swapping positions like no ones business. The checkered flew with Stark taking the win, Burns second, Cole third with a last turn pass on Dow. Finally I could breathe again... Feature time and Danny Burns learned from the earlier pass from Stark to lead lap one. Tyler Stark pulled another trick from his bag and executed a beautiful crossover in turn one and two to steal the lead from Burns. Burns looked like a seasoned veteran making moves back for the lead and still defending his position from Dow and Cole who were both driving their asses off to earn the championship!!! I don't think even paper was thin enough to fit between every driver at almost any part of the race!!! Clay Dow ran a line that no other could make work with his left front up on the burm on the bottom of the track in turn one and two he could roll up next to Burns every lap but couldn't make it stick to take the second spot from Burns. The checkered flag found Tyler Stark winning the absolute nail biter of a race, Danny Burns (the rookie) earning the respect he deserves in second and Clay Dow (Mr smooth) finishing third coming up two points shy to tie for the championship leaving Mr Mark Cole finishing a strong fourth to secure the championship for season two of New England Wingless Dirt Sprints!!!! So that was the race in a nutshell, the real backstory here that the fans don't get to see is, we are a tight racing family. Or teams spent the day together laughing and telling lies, eating amazing food that almost every one contributed to ( I'm the bad egg that didn't contribute I apologize for forgetting) and most importantly everyone helping each other. One team sponsored another team a new bumper, another team had to replace a motor during the week and forgot to put the bumper back on and forgot it at the shop, boom a competitor had one. Hell I even had the wife of another team help rebuild the carburetor on my car( thank you Jess!!) and not to mention every team making sure we were ready to roll out for qualifying!! Clay Dow was right there handing me bolts as I was scrambling to get ready!!! I can't say enough about our series, we don't race for money, we race with pride and dignity!! We all love this sport and it shows every week!! So in close I would like to thank legion speedway, jolly Rogers flat track, the drivers, the families and all of the crew members for doing everything possible to make our series one of the best around!!!
