Here’s a recent oil filter cooler removal and reseal on a hard-working Chevy 2500. These 6.6L turbo diesels are known for developing leaks at the cooler assembly—every manufacturer has its common weak points, and this is one of them.
Many shops will immediately recommend replacing or upgrading the entire cooler. While upgraded units do exist, they’re generally unnecessary unless the truck is used primarily for heavy towing. Instead, we rebuild and reseal the existing cooler using fresh OEM seals and the latest updated part numbers to ensure a proper, long-lasting repair.
It’s worth noting that several (not all) of the cooler bolts are stretch bolts, meaning they are single-use and must be replaced. If this hardware wasn’t changed during previous service, the job wasn’t done correctly.
If you’re experiencing leaks or want the job done right the first time, give us a call or stop by to schedule your repair appointment today.
