A steady (solid) warning horn on many OMC outboards may not be from overheating. There is a High Vacuum switch, found on many Johnson/Evinrude engines, that monitors the vacuum side of the fuel system. A kinked fuel line or some other obstruction can cause this switch to activate the audible warning system. This was a very good feature that only OMC had. It can save your powerhead from destruction.

This is the 150 Merc that had the stuck recirculation check valve. It required the power head to be pulled to gain access . It's running much better now, but I will water test it to be sure.

The right way to do a carburetor rebuild. All six of these carb bodies will be soaked, cleaned and blown out with compressed air. Then, a new inlet needle and seat assembly will be installed along with the rest of the carb kit. All of the fixed jets will be inspected and cleaned, and will be checked for the correct size. All of the high speed jets on these carbs were loose and falling out!
