Bringing new life to an ordinary flatbed! We narrowed the bed for a single rear wheel, added length up front to close the cab gap, and carried the custom shape around the front edge. Happy Friday, and have a great weekend!

Precision matters—especially in high-end restoration.
It’s a common misconception that installing a replacement panel means a vehicle is ready for paint. In reality, proper fitment is one of the most critical—and most overlooked—steps in the restoration process. Without it, issues often show up long after the project is “finished.”
On this ’63 knee-knocker Chevy, we replaced the A-pillars and took the extra steps necessary to ensure everything fits exactly as it should. Before any finish work, we mocked up the windshield to confirm alignment and immediately spotted poor fitment in the corners. From there, we marked the correct pillar location, then fabricated a custom windshield jig to guide precise repositioning.
This type of work takes time, but it’s essential for a result that’s truly built to last. Aftermarket parts can get you close—and even factory gaps weren’t perfect in the ‘60s—but careful fitting and follow-through make all the difference.
Our goal with every project is simple: make each vehicle fit and function better than it did when it first left the assembly line. And for anyone who’s walked a car show, the difference is easy to spot.

🚨 Truck Owners — Here’s a Warning Sign You Don’t Want to Ignore! 🚨

If you’ve ever noticed a strange gap between your truck’s cab and bed, it might be more than just an eyesore. A rusted or weakened frame often shows its symptoms right in that spot.
👀 In Photo 1:
You can see the top of the gap compressing while the bottom stretches open. That mismatch is a clear sign the frame has weakened and begun to sag.
🛠️ After Structural Repair (Photo 2):
Our team removes the damaged, rusted section and restores the frame’s integrity.
✅ Final Result (Photo 3):
A straight, consistent, uniform gap—top to bottom—just the way it should be.
Many people spot this issue on trucks but don’t realize it can be fixed. Yes, it can be restored — safely and correctly.
👉 Have you ever seen a truck with a gap like this?
👉 Did you know the frame may be failing?

HUGE milestone reached on the 1963 International Harvester Scout build!

The body and chassis have officially been joined!
The original frame was completely renewed and powder coating was applied, brand new suspension with a small lift were installed, and all running gear components were either restored or upgraded.

Right now, the chassis is acting as the ultimate alignment jig, allowing us to perfectly dial in all the body panels before we tackle panel replacement. The body will come off one last time for final metal finishing, but this step ensures that when the doors, roof, and other panels go on after paint, the fit and finish will be absolutely flawless.

Stay tuned—the metal work is about to get intense!

⚠️ ATTN: Maryland Historic Tag Owners ⚠️

The historic tag exemption for vehicles in the 2000–2005 model years officially ENDED on July 1st. A safety inspection is now required to switch to standard plates.

⚠️ Lost your historic plate eligibility?

If your 2000-2005 vehicle was previously registered only with historic tags (and has never undergone a full safety inspection), you must now obtain a Maryland Safety Inspection Certificate to switch to a standard plate.

What separates a run-of-the-mill restoration from a Handformed Hotrods sheet-metal restoration is the tedious last 10%!

Check out our story highlights in our profile to a quick look at what goes into this important part of the process!

We’ve taken the last couple weeks to really hone in on the details of gapping out Karl’s ‘68 Mustang, after installing new unisides, custom S197 seat mounts, and every piece of exterior metal in it’s time in our shop.

Spending the time to fit windows, trim, gaskets, etc while in bare metal gives us the chance to modify panels and gaps for a perfect fit, leading to minimal bodywork, and a much better end product!

Hit us up to get your project heading in the right direction!

Mike’s C10 was one of our earliest full restorations and will always be a favorite. He brought it by the shop last weekend for us to see it one last time, before it went to its new owner in Wisconsin on Monday.

Check out our story highlight on our page for a reel of this beautiful C10 Restomod!
