Thank you to the race sponsors, everyone who donated, volunteers, race teams, officials, support staff and every fan who came through the gates. Together we celebrated Riley in the way she would be proud of.
Race for Riley Night Creates Lasting Memories at Double X Speedway
CALIFORNIA, Mo. – Double X Speedway welcomed another outstanding crowd of racing fans Sunday evening as the annual Race for Riley once again combined exciting competition on the quarter-mile clay oval with an evening dedicated to family, community and the memory of one very special young race fan.
Three divisions took to the speedway in pursuit of one of the most meaningful victories of the season as the 360 Winged Sprint Cars, Super Stocks, and B Modifieds competed for the honor of becoming the 2026 Race for Riley feature winners. With past winners in all divisions in attendance the fans were eagerly anticipating who would take home the crown in this year’s edition.
The B Modifieds kicked off the evening with two heat races. In heat one it was Chad Staus taking the win with Konner Reed finishing second over Justin Allen, Jr and Dawson David. Ryan Oerly completed the top five. Heat two saw Tyler Potter take the win followed by Rex Harris, Colson Kirk, Brian Meyer. Jason Brotherton rounded out the top five. The feature event saw a few caution flags lead to attrition but through it all Tyler Potter remained the “Undefeated” at the track in the B Modifieds this season. Potter was chased to the finish by Colson Kirk who drove the top shelf like a bandit, Dawson David crossed the stripe in third, Chad Staus finished a solid fourth and Brian Meyer completed the top five.
The Super Stocks were the featured class for the evening with three heat races for the 21 cars signed in. Heat one saw multi time Race for Riley Champion Ted Welschmeyer take the win over Darek Wiss. Heat two was picked up by Shawn Clair over Brandon Dunham and the third heat saw Terry Schultz claim the win over John Clancy, Jr. The feature event was closely contested early with Welschmeyer leading lap one, but Schultz would take the point on lap two and lead for the duration. Following veteran Schultz under the checkers were Welschmeyer in second, John Clancy, Jr. in third, James Nighswonger finished fourth and Darek Wiss was fifth.
The 360 Winged Sprint Car fans were anticipating the return of local favorite Tyler Blank to Double X for the first time this season. Blank wasted little time in shaking off the rust and taking the win in the first heat over Jack Wagner. The second heat saw Chris Solomon post a solid win over Miles Paulus. When the green flag dropped for the main event, Blank would win the race into turn one and set the #75 on the top shelf, leading all 25 laps to pick up the win in a race that has very special meaning to the #75 team. Chris Solomon would run a very strong second, Miles Paulus put up another solid performance in taking third, Ben Brown moved up to take the number four position and Chase Howard posted a solid fifth.
While the drivers battled for checkered flags, the true heart of the evening belonged to the children and families filling the grandstands.
Riley Michelle became part of the Double X Speedway family almost from the day she entered the world, attending her first race when she was just 10 days old. Affectionately known as "LadyBug," a nickname lovingly given to her by her Aunt Leslie, Riley quickly became one of the track's biggest fans. She could often be found in Turn 4 cheering for her favorite drivers or helping younger race fans experience the excitement of collecting an autographed checkered flag from feature winners.
Although Riley's life lasted only nine short years, the joy, kindness and enthusiasm she shared continued to inspire everyone who knew her. The annual Race for Riley has become a celebration of the values she loved most: family, friendship, community and the simple joy of spending a Sunday evening together at the racetrack.
One of Riley's greatest legacies extends well beyond the speedway. It was deeply important to her parents that Riley become an organ donor, allowing her to continue helping others even after her passing. In Riley's honor, her family encourages everyone to learn more about organ donation and consider registering to become a donor. It is a selfless gift that has the power to save and improve countless lives while allowing Riley's spirit of giving to continue inspiring others.
Adding even more smiles to the evening was the annual Kids Bicycle Giveaway, which sent several young race fans home with brand-new bicycles. Events like these are exactly what the Race for Riley represents: creating memories, inspiring the next generation of racing fans and strengthening the bonds that make the Double X Speedway family so special.
Double X Speedway extends its sincere appreciation to Riley's family, the sponsors who helped make the evening possible, every family that attended, and the drivers and crews who competed in one of the season's most meaningful events. Nights like the Race for Riley remind us that while racing may bring us together, it is the people, friendships and memories that keep us coming back each Sunday night.
