This is the longest trip I have taken in the Crown Fire Truck. From my shop to the crown collector meeting in Camarrillo. It was 143 miles to get there and 143 miles home.

Speeds were between 5 mph (up hill), to 45-50 mph (on flat ground) and 55 mph (down hill).

Some problems showed up, like changing fuel filters. That let me do 25 mph, up hill going home.

All gages stabilized, within normal ranges.

Overall real happy to complete the trip without problems.

Stayed at the fire academy overnight after finding that all the hotels were full! Went to target and got air mattress.

Had ladders donated tonight, so it will look more like a complete fire truck at the Crown meeting tomorrow.

If you are in the area of Camarillo, drop by the Oxnard fire academy next to Camarillo airport to see all the classic fire trucks!

Yesterday I had some time so I started working on reinstalling the CPT door panel. It looked like there had been several iterations of door panels with different holes.

So I decided to put nut zerts in the to have matching holes and screws to match. But there was a problem (there always is). The top of the door panel has 1/2 inch between where I needed to drill for the nut zerts and the new $850 CPT window.

So I looked around and found a piece of old wood trim that would cushion the window from the drill bit.

The new CPT window cam in and is now installed and working properly.

So now I can keep birds, bugs, dust and rain out of the cab.

Still need to get the inner CPT door latch working properly and then remount the stainless steel door panel properly with matching stainless steel screws.

Still waiting for the glass shop to get my new window in. Fortunately I still have time before the crown meeting in September that I promised to take the truck to.

Just an average day, in an average city, on a take your howitzer to school day!

I took the HUMVE and howitzer for the local high school ROTC to use for recruiting. On my way to the school, I saw some kids walking and offered them a ride. They are probably still talking about it!

It turns out I also need a window crank handle for the CPT door. I may need to find two of each handle to have a matched set.

This morning I got up early (I am retired and like to sleep in), and drove the truck about 20 miles to the closest glass shop to get the new window made.

They replaced the broken and missing window lace/track in the door. Then made a 1/4 laminated glass window. When they rolled the new window up, it cracked at the top.

They are now ordering me a 3/16 tempered glass window to put into the truck. It will be about 2-3 weeks for the new window to arrive.

Still plenty of time before the Sep crown gathering in Ventura.

Yesterday I pulled the CPT door apart on preparation of replacing the broken window. To my amazement the inner door handle was disconnected.

It appears the rod was still inside the door, I just need to figure out how to hook it up and make it work.

I also found the bottom part of the window resting on two wooden blocks at the bottom of the door, not connected to the cranking system.

Checking the window crank, it appears to be working properly. So now I need to figure out how to connect the bottom window bar to the window crank mechanism.

So once again I am not surprised to find things not as they should be. The joys of restoring older equipment!

I will get some photos next time I am out working on the truck.
