Black History Month began in 1926 thanks to historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson, who created a dedicated time to study and recognize the achievements and contributions of Black Americans when much of that history was overlooked.
Over the past century, Black History Month has grown into a month-long observance of resilience, excellence, and influence, inspiring education, cultural appreciation, and community celebration across the nation and beyond.

LONG-LEWIS AUTOMOTIVE GROUP RETURNS TO BESSEMER WITH ACQUISITION OF STEP ONE CHEVROLET

BESSEMER, ALABAMA, January 20, 2026 – In 2026, Long-Lewis Automotive Group proudly returns to its city of origin with the purchase of Step One Chevrolet in Bessemer. Founded in downtown Bessemer in 1887, Long-Lewis established deep roots in the community before relocating its primary operations to Hoover in 1999. After 27 years, the company’s return to Bessemer marks a meaningful homecoming and a new chapter in its long-standing Alabama legacy. The dealership will officially operate as Long-Lewis Chevrolet of Bessemer.

Long-Lewis Automotive Group purchased all assets of the dealership and extended opportunities for continued employment to all existing team members. Employees were given the choice to remain with the organization, and many have elected to continue serving the Bessemer community. This acquisition further strengthens the company’s footprint across the state and reinforces its long-standing commitment to growth, stability, and community involvement.
