Quite often, poor performance from vehicle air conditioning systems has nothing to do with low refrigerant. Automotive A/C issues can be something as simple as a blown fuse or a clogged cabin air filter, and this pic demonstrates what can happed if the cabin filter is removed or not replaced when dirty. Some simple maintenance would have prevented this very costly repair! Our experienced trustworthy technicians can handle all of your A/C issues on any domestic or asian vehicles with either the r134a or the r1234yf systems! From a dodge, ford, jeep or chevy to a honda, nissan or kia we can take care of it! Just take it to Archers!

Tech Tip Tuesday: most vehicles are equipped with a cabin air filter. These don't just keep leaves, hair and other debris from collecting on the a/c evaporator they also filter out smoke, dust and other particulates from outside air which is important this time of year in Idaho.
When these filters get clogged they restrict airflow and your air conditioning won't operate at max efficiency. It can also cause some pretty offensive doors!
Luckily, the majority of these take just a few minutes to change and often you can do it yourself with minimal or no tools required which is why we don't charge labor to install most of them. Some are very difficult to access however, so do your research before attempting to do it yourself.
If a mechanic or l**e shop comes to you with a dirty cabin filter in their hand, you should not be asked to pay labor to replace it, just the price of the part. Logically, they already have the old one out and if you decline the job they are going to put the old one back in for free so why pay labor to install a new one instead?

PSA: Every summer we have over 100 people come to us with A/C issues stating they "already tried the little can and it didn't work" or "I had a mobile mechanic try to fix it and he charged the system with a little can" Not only did they waste their hard earned money but it often causes additional problems and increased expenses to the repairs! It's common for the system to be overcharged, damaged fittings requiring line replacement, clogged orifices due to the sealer in the can, and other expensive issues. On top of that, many modern A/C machines test for contaminated refrigerant before evacuating the system and will not remove refrigerant that's contaminated with sealant because it can cause severe damage to the machine. Many shops will refuse to work on your vehicle if youve used those little cans.

No professional will ever use those cans! Ask yourself, if they did work, why would professional shops invest $8-12k in equipment to do the job instead of just buying the diy cans as needed? Quite often, automotive A/C issues are caused by something other than a low refrigerant charge, so adding more refrigerant just creates an additional problem for a shop to figure out which can result in more expensive testing and diagnosis fees. A/C systems are charged with a very specific amount of refrigerant and the only way to correctly charge a system is to entirely evacuate the system and recharge it with that very specific amount.

If you drive a hooptie that you never plan on maintaining, feel free to roll the dice. If you care about your vehicle and want long term results, please take it to a professional.

We sincerely hope this advice helps save some people money in the long run.
