Just wrapped up a preservation on an early 1900’s National Refining Company ENARCO MOTOR OIL 40” double-sided gas station sign featuring the iconic “Slate Boy” mascot.
This piece came to us heavily oxidized with very little contrast left in the graphics. Our goal wasn’t to restore or repaint—but to carefully reveal and stabilize what was still there. Through a controlled cleaning process, we were able to bring the original lettering, border, and character back to life while preserving the authentic surface and patina collectors look for.
We don’t believe in over-restoring history. Every scratch, fade, and imperfection tells the story—and this sign still has plenty to say.
From barely visible to display-ready… and still 100% original.
