Due to the Red Air Quality Alert issued by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP), the Doddridge County Pool will be closed today.
After consulting with medical professionals and others knowledgeable in public health and emergency response, we believe this is the safest decision for our guests and staff.
The poor air quality, caused by smoke from the Canadian wildfires, can pose health risks—especially for children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions. Exposure may lead to headaches, breathing difficulties, nausea, and other symptoms.
The safety and well-being of everyone who visits the Splash Zone is our highest priority. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming everyone back as soon as air quality conditions improve.
Here’s the statement that was sent to us pertaining to today’s conditions
WVDEP issued a Code Red Air Quality Alert has been issued for NCWV., which includes this area. Code Red means the air is unhealthy, and even healthy people may experience irritation with prolonged outdoor exertion.
Normal activities such as walking to your car or running errands are generally fine.
Residents should consider postponing vigorous outdoor exercise, mowing the lawn, or spending several hours outside until the air improves.
If residents have asthma, COPD, heart disease, or are over age 65, it’s a good idea to stay indoors as much as practical, keep windows closed, and use air conditioning or a HEPA air purifier if available.

We are hiring a Program Assistant position in the WVU Ritchie County Extension Office! It is a county-paid, benefits eligible, position serving WVU Ritchie County Extension.
