A tractor-trailer is longer and heavier than other vehicles on the road. Although a semi can haul massive loads at a single time, there are several Federal limits. A truck’s gross vehicle weight limit is 80,000 pounds, which includes the mass of both the cab and the trailer. For single-axle trucks, the limit is 20,000 pounds, and for tandem-axle loads, it’s 34,000 pounds.
