Rusty - Beloved Shop Cat and the REAL Boss of Davids Star - Last Shift: August 9, 2026
It is with sad hearts that we share that we said goodbye to our beloved shop cat Rusty this past Sunday.
Rusty first came to us as a semi-feral little guy who was rescued right off the streets. He needed a place to call home and we were delighted to have him come find that at our shop. After a few rough days, he learned to trust us and he quickly adapted to being the center of everything going on at our shop.
He was such a smart cat. Auto shops can be dangerous places for animals, but Rusty seemed to just know what he could do and where he could go. While his early days gave him a healthy sense of self-preservation, he quickly commandeered the counter, the break room, and the office and ran everything with a sense of purpose.
He always knew when someone needed extra attention, and many customers were surprised to find him coming over and sitting with them while they waited for their cars. He learned tricks better than a dog and his video of ringing the bell for treats has nearly gone viral. He begrudgingly went along with the many outfits we made him wear, seeming to appreciate that we only posted the very best pictures of him, and not his grumpy faces.
Best of all, he talked his way into sharing lunches and getting treats. He always knew where "dad" was and would hang out with David whenever he sat down (or opened a wrapper). He liked to hang out with dad if he was working outside, or even hop up on a car or bus and check out what was going on.
He gave us so many great years and we are all going to miss him so much. Thank you to all of you who loved Rusty and brought him treats and toys. He loved every last one of them! Rest easy, Rusty. There will never be another shop cat like you!
