Service writers, also known as service advisors, serve as a liaison between customers who need repairs performed on their vehicles and the technicians who will provide those repairs. While developing strong relationships with customers as a service writer, you must understand their problems and be committed to solving them. Service writers translate their customers' needs into work orders for technicians, prepare quotes for customers and bill customers when work is complete. Service technicians may become service writers, who themselves may aspire to become an administrative lead at the company.

Excellent customer services skills are also necessary for this job, and you must be able to handle customer complaints and disputes.
