Tire manufacturing is a highly complex engineering process that combines chemistry, physics, and heavy machinery to create the only part of a car that actually touches the road. It begins with mixing raw rubber—both natural and synthetic—with various compounds like carbon black and silica to achieve the perfect balance of durability and grip.
The “green tire” is built layer by layer on a rotating drum. This includes the inner liner, body plies for structural strength, steel belts to maintain the tire’s shape at high speeds, and finally, the tread and sidewalls. Once assembled, the tire is placed in a curing press where high pressure and heat vulcanize the rubber, permanently bonding the layers together and molding the final tread pattern. This ensures that every tire can withstand thousands of pounds of pressure while providing a smooth, safe ride.
