While pulling out stuff from the attic to trash or sell I came across a w**d eater that I had all but written off, because it had began to run horribly and eventually wouldn’t run at all. Tried a new primer bulb and spark plug and nothing, wouldn’t hit a lick.
So the other day I got to searching for common problems with these units via my AI assistant that I now use for a variety of things around the shop. It compiles hundreds of sources such as online message boards, apps like Reddit, technical bulletins, and even Facebook posts.
It turns out that the common issue with these units was the fact that they are choked down because of environmental standards. The carburetor is restricted, and the exhaust is also restricted. There is also a spark arrestor screen with tiny wire that ends up clogged up with carbon from the burning of two stroke fuel.
So I disassembled it, removed the restrictions, filled it up with fuel, and with the help of one sq**rt of starting fluid it ran for the first time in probably 4 years.
So yeah, pretty proud of myself for figuring that one out, I was about to sell it cheap! I think I’ll keep it, it works really well.
