Our first February 2026 B.E.S.T. Award winner is Deb Ulvestad, Volunteer & Retired Brookings High School Secretary for her recent work at both Mickelson Middle School and Brookings High School. 🐾
🥇 Nomination: "Deb Ulvestad is exceptionally deserving of the B.E.S.T. Award for her continued dedication and service to the Brookings School District. Although retired from Brookings High School, Deb’s commitment to students, staff, and families has never wavered. When staffing gaps arose, she willingly stepped back in to provide critical support, demonstrating her deep care for the district and its people.
Deb has been an invaluable asset across both the high school and middle school during times of need. Her extensive knowledge of office systems and the registration process brought stability, accuracy, and reassurance during a high-stakes transition at the high school, while her support at the middle school ensured the office continued to run smoothly while a secretary was out. Deb consistently arrives early, seeks out additional responsibilities, and approaches every task with professionalism, patience, and attention to detail. Her calm presence and proactive problem-solving have been deeply appreciated by staff.
What truly sets Deb apart is her servant leadership. She gives her time and expertise selflessly, not because she has to, but because she genuinely cares about the success of the district. Her quiet leadership, reliability, and willingness to step in wherever needed embody the spirit of the B.E.S.T. Award. Deb’s continued service has made a meaningful difference during a critical time, and we are incredibly grateful for the lasting impact she continues to make."
