Shannon has the institutional knowledge gained over the last 50 years about the sail and motor yacht market to provide crucial information to help you through the process. If you are looking at any New England boat builder no longer in operation, Shannon knows the intimate details of the history of our competitors.

Especially if you are looking for a Shannon, our archives contain production details and vessel history available nowhere else. Here are the original records from a just listed 1977 Shannon 38 cutter.

Having just started our 51st year on February 5th, we wanted to highlight that the primary reason we are still here is because of individuals like 6 of the people featured here. Without all our loyal, dedicated, and enthusiastic Shannon owners, Shannon would not have made it into our second half-century.

Now as a rule we don’t promote other boats, but this is too good a story involving 3 Shannon Shoalsailer couples. And if you are going to buy any other boat besides a Shannon, a 100’ Swan is OK.

What a wonderful story of sailing camaraderie from some fellow yacht owners and Shannon owners. Happy to hear the Shannon 50 'Queen Jane' is out on the water spreading kindness along their sailing journey.

A cruising life story.
A few days ago we sailed in to anchor at Pelican bay, near the southern entrance to Queensland's Great Sandy Straits. Strong southerly winds were forecast for the next day. Soon several other yachts, obviously bound south, joined us to wait for fair winds to cross Wide Bay Bar and head south towards Brisbane. Next morning I got out my computer to work on my a writing project at the saloon table and David set up his easel next to the chart table and got out his very large collection of pastels.

A few pleasant hours later we heard voices and saw the crew of three from Queen Jane, a Shannon 50 from Seattle, coming alongside in their inflatable. I recognised one of them as Kate Nigel, a lady I'd chatted with briefly at a marina laundry several hundred miles to the north. At that time we'd both been rushing to set sail for other destinations.
David immediately called out, "come on board, it's time for tea." I jokingly added, "especially if one of you is a nurse "
"Will a doctor do?" The other woman in the dinghy asked.

The almost instant connection that often happens when cruisers meet meant the next few hours flowed as we learned that Kate and Jordan Nigel had been cruising for 25 years, raising their son on board for 17 of those years. Kate's sister, Andrea Reiche, had just retired from her work as an obstratian joined them to celebrate with this cruise on Queen Jane.

"Have you met so and so? What's been your favorite cruising ground? What's changed since you started out?" All the questions cruisers start with meant wonderful easy conversation. And yes, Andrea's medical skills solved my only problem as she deftly removed the last stitches from a minor surgical procedure that had been done in Townsville, a few weeks previously on David's cheek to remove some sun damage. I had been afraid to use a scalpel. But Andreas steady, knowledgeable hands made short work of the procedure.

Today, as we sail over smooth seas with a light wind in the beam, i took a look at what she wrote in our guest book - "I would be happy to provide house call services to your boat any time."

Shannon 43 Cutter or Ketch – TAKE YOUR PICK

The last six months here have seen a focus on the Shannon 43. We completed an extensive renovation on the 1998 Shannon 43 Hull #42, including repowering with a Beta 62HP, adding a Schaeffer roller furling boom with new Doyle mainsail, rebuilding deck hatches, completely replacing the sanitation system from the toilets to the hoses to the holding tanks, etc.

On the brokerage front, we completed the sale of one of the last Shannon 43’s built to a couple from Cambridge, MA planning to take off on a retirement Caribbean cruise. In addition, we just listed Shannon 43 Hull #1, a beautiful ketch with a teak interior that spent the last 20 years on the Great Lakes. https://www.Yachtworld.com/yacht/1985-shannon-43-ketch-9947579/

Down south we also have listed a wonderful 1988 Shannon 43 cutter in Savannah GA. https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/1988-shannon-43-9738543/

If you have any questions about Shannon 43s or any Shannon model, please let us know as we have the original building records for every one of the over 500 Shannons built.

While most sail boaters wish and wait for warm days and calm winds, if you own a Shannon Pilot 38' like Jack Wasylyk, then a cold March Saturday with a full gale blowing off the NJ shore in NYC harbor is just perfect for an exhilarating sail.

Here is a wonderful video of cruising the ICW on a Shannon 43 by Griff Washburn, also known as Goth Babe, a true indie rock storyteller talent that you should go see if he has a concert in your town.

Thanks for watching, y'all! Juneau was a blast to sail in such cold conditions and kept us safe and content. More "Micro Adventures" ahead!Drone footage by J...
