The idea behind warming up your car is a good one but with newer cars it may look a little different. Cold motor oil is less viscous, which can cause damage to your engine. Warming up the oil helps prevent engine damage. However, an idle car will take a long time to warm the oil. Driving the car is the fastest, safest way to warm up the oil.
