Well I decided to let the ‘99 truck go. Mainly because I bought this 2022 2500HD.

Time to take a look at the two hatchback lids to see which one I’m going to use. Spoiler alert- I already know which one. I’m just doing this to post some content, lol.

I truly am surprised at how much rust was in the windshield channel, given the car’s origin, and how rust free the rest of the car is. That being said- the rear window channel on the hatch that came with the car is even much worse!!

I made a trip to N. Carolina awhile back, and with the help of my nephew Matt, we stripped a Vega of its worthy parts. I wasn’t going to bring the hatch home with me, just because the truck bed was getting full. Thankfully Matt talked me into making a home for it in the truck bed, because I’m going to have to use that one. The rusted metal surrounding the back window area is so thin, I lack both the fabrication and welding skills to take a shot at repairing it to the level it needs to be. Time for some pics. I’m sure you can tell which one is which. If not, the green one is the one I’ll be using.

Finally at a point that I’m done welding on the windshield channel. Just gotta put some goop down to seal it. I’ll be taking a good look at the hatchbacks (I have two), and decide which one I prefer to use and get it ready to be worked on.

Here’s some before and after pics of the windshield channel.

Slowly getting there on the Vega’s windshield channel. Weld in another section, grind, weld pinholes, grind, and if you’re lucky, you won’t have to repeat.

Tip #1. ALWAYS anticipate rust in this area on older cars. Even if the previous owner says the car is rust free. It’s no fault of his, unless he covered it up. You just won’t know until you remove the trim and gunk from around that channel where the glass sits. Hell, even my ‘68 Camaro had some rust in this area, and that was a California car! Anyways, once I’m finished in this area, progress will go much quicker on the rest of the car. But not until hunting season is over for me 😁.

Alright let’s get back to my pile of scrap that I posted awhile back. I’m building an engine test/run stand. Built for small or big block Chevy engines only. Yes, I’m biased. I have pretty much everything to finish it, but since I didn’t post in awhile, I’ll show some pics now. I’ll be sand blasting then painting it before the following happens- Still have to mount the gauge panel, gas tank, and battery. A special thank you goes out to Eric for letting me use his future coffee table engine block for mock up purposes. 😆

Getting back to work on the Vega soon!!

I’m sure everyone remembers this truck I bought at the end of May (you can scroll back if you don’t). Just finished installing a Meyers plow on it after some other changes. Still on the fence. Do I keep it or flip it? Runs like a top. Frame has no rust. Also has a new AC condenser, ac coil, and both lines. The ac will freeze you out of the truck, and the heat will make you melt!

I’m thinking if someone walks up to me with $6,500 I’ll let it go. If not, looks like I have a plow truck/daily driver. Which isn’t a bad thing, because I just put antique plates on my squarebody.
