The working life of forklift tires depends on frequency of use and the operating environment. How long a tire will be in use on both a daily basis and an extended period are important factors to consider when purchasing.

01/26/2021

Pneumatic tires were made almost exclusively between the late 1800s and the early 1900s. The outer casing of these tires protected the inner tube filled with air, and provided good traction on roadways.

01/21/2021

Some industrial tires are oil-proof, while others are not. Oil-proof tires are designed for use in factories, warehouses, and construction sites, where they may regularly come in contact with oil or solvents that can accelerate deterioration.

01/19/2021

If you're the type who likes to dress up cars, then you will probably want to equip your car with tires that are bigger than stock. While this is OK, it's important to keep in mind that the car will now accelerate more slowly and its ride may become harsher.

01/14/2021

Solid industrial tires are ideal for use on slow vehicles or trailers with a high risk of impact and cut damage. This type of tire is extremely durable and stable, with a robust sidewall that offers a higher degree of puncture resistance than other tires.

01/12/2021

The main materials that make up a tire are synthetic rubber, natural rubber, fabric, wire, and other chemical compounds. When combined, these components form a tire's tread and body.

01/07/2021

Did you know that soil compaction is one of the principal soil damage processes for farmers? This is generally caused by increasingly heavy agricultural machines passing over the soil, often in difficult climatic conditions. In most cases, the right type of tire can make all the difference.

01/05/2021

Ever wonder why some cars skid out of control while attempting to drive on wet roads? This is due to hydroplaning. This is when the car's tires lose contact with the road surface and actually float over the water.

12/31/2020

The sidewalls of your ag tires carry a wealth of valuable information, including maximum speeds. Tires with the designation SL have a maximum speed of 25 miles per hour. F1 tires max out at 55 mph.

12/29/2020

Did you know that some rims are available in fun colors like bright green, orange, and diamond chrome? These are a great way to give your car its own personality and make it stand out from other vehicles.

12/24/2020

If you have grown tired of cleaning the treads on the tires of your motorized farm equipment, look for an open, curved bar pattern. They are self-cleaning, and do not sacrifice the traction you need on rugged or muddy terrain.

12/22/2020

Have you ever wondered why the car tires in old movies look a bit different than the tires we use today? If the movie is from before the 1950s, then the tires were made with an inner tube to hold the air, then an outer casing to protect the inner tube.

12/17/2020

While you may be somewhat slow to check the tires on your car, the tires on industrial equipment needs to be carefully monitored, especially with vehicles used for transporting heavy loads. Do not let the tires fall below their recommended pressure.

12/15/2020

If tires need to be replaced, it is best to replace all four tires at once - or change the two front tires or the two back tires. Replacing the tires in groups will help your tires to all wear evenly.

12/10/2020

Solid rubber industrial tires are basically constructed of solid rubber that’s been built around a metal band. These tires are sometimes called “cushion tires,” as they provide a cushion of solid tire between the load and the surface.

12/08/2020

The proper tire can save you money on gasoline costs, according to a study published in Tire Review. The study concluded that tires that minimize rolling resistance can save between 5 and 7 percent a year on gasoline costs by increasing the average mileage.

12/03/2020

Some industrial tires are classified by tread depth. Those with heavy-duty treads are more affordable up front, but they don’t last as long as mid-range deep-tread tires, while those with extra-deep treads contain more rubber, have thicker sidewalls, and last the longest.

12/01/2020

Did you know that, by carrying more weight, you put more wear on your tires? Overloading your vehicle is a factor in tire wear, as it contributesby contributing to heat buildup in your tires. This applies to all vehicles, not just trucks and trailers.

11/26/2020

The tread designation is used to describe the tread and indicate usage of agricultural tires. There are three specifications: R1, R1W, or R2. R1 is a standard tread, R1W is a wet traction tread, and R2 is used typically with cane and rice or other crops grown in wet muck or flooded fields.

11/24/2020

Did you know that the first radial tire was patented by Arthur W Savage in the year 1915? He was an inventor from California.

11/19/2020

Originally, rubber tires were made out of natural rubber latex that had been vulcanized (treated with sulfur), but that changed during World War II. That’s when synthetic, polyurethane tires were developed as an alternative to expensive, hard-to-get rubber tires.

11/17/2020

In today’s tires, actual tread life is impacted by several different factors. Tread life will typically vary by car type, tire type (all season, high performance, and so on), driving habits (including aggressiveness), and typical road and weather conditions.

11/12/2020

Sometimes, bias is a good thing. With tractor tires, for example, bias tires determine grip and versatility. They’re well-suited to utility tractors that don’t spend much time on roadways, aren’t used for major tilling, or are used less frequently.

11/10/2020

Industrial applications can include tons of different jobs, which means there can be dozens of different types of equipment, all of them needing tires. Industrial tire experts have got you covered, and can make sure you get the right tires for any equipment you have.

11/05/2020

Did you know that changing the rims on your vehicle does not actually improve its performance? However, customizing your wheels with some stylish rims can give it personality and improve it aesthetically.

11/03/2020

Ozone will attack the rubber on your ag tires, and is one of the leading causes of deterioration. As the rubber breaks down, it begins to crack and split. When the tire is under pressure, the gaps grow, exposing more area to ozone and accelerating breakdown.

10/29/2020

Although Charles Goodyear devoted his life to perfecting rubber and went on to become one of the most recognizable names in the auto world today, he died penniless. His name was used for the famous tire company out of respect 40 years after his death.

10/27/2020

The life of any industrial tire is affected by many variables. These include the average typical load carried by the vehicle, average load carried by the tire, inflation pressure, ambient temperature, floor surface and conditions, and exposure to oils and solvents.

10/22/2020

High-performance tires are composed of a softer rubber compound that provides increased traction. This allows you to stay on the road better when you’re cornering at high speeds.

10/20/2020

Think about how smooth your ag equipment rides today – until 1932, tractors, combines, spreaders, and other equipment all rode on steel wheels. Once pneumatic tires appeared, farmers no longer had to worry about moving from field to field while crossing roads and damaging their wheels.

10/15/2020

One of the best ways to maintain rims is to rotate your vehicle's tires every few thousand miles. This maintenance process shifts the placement of the rubber coverings to prevent uneven wear and tear on the rims.

10/13/2020

The maximums for inflation and load of a tire are expressed as the Static Load Ratio (SLR). This measurement is taken when the tire is under load, and is calculated from the centerline of the axle to the ground.

10/08/2020

Tires were made using solid rubber soon after vulcanization was discovered. These tires resisted cuts, absorbed shocks, and were generally very strong. However, they did not provide people with a smooth ride.

10/06/2020

The aspect ratio of an agricultural tire is presented in terms of percentages. It is determined by dividing the section height by the section width. It is another important measurement in the profile of your tires.

My family always gets great service at Rhea’s.
Big thumbs up to Dan, Charles and Mr. Rhea Little at Rhea Little. We've used the shop for years and we're always happy! I recently had an issue with my car, they assessed the problem and graciously let me park it there overnight while I decided whether or not to repair it and even loaned me a tool! I ultimately did not repair it but they didn't hold that against me! Thanks so much!
