🐭 Hidden Damage You Can’t See… Until It’s Too Late
This 2022 BMW X4 came into the shop with an airbag warning light.
What we found wasn’t a faulty module…
It was rodent damage.
A mouse entered through the right rear of the vehicle, made its way under the carpet, and tunneled all the way to the center console, where the airbag control module is located.
From there, it chewed through wiring at the connector, triggering a critical safety fault.
⸻
👉 Here’s what most people don’t realize:
Modern vehicle wiring insulation is often soy-based, which can attract rodents.
Once they get in, they don’t just nest —
they destroy wiring, modules, and even safety systems.
⸻
⚠️ Why this matters:
• Airbag system faults = compromised safety
• Repairs can get expensive quickly
• Damage is often hidden under carpets and panels
⸻
🛠️ How to help prevent this:
• Keep your vehicle free of food and crumbs
• Set mouse traps in your garage
• Drive the vehicle regularly (especially near wooded areas)
• Use mint-based rodent deterrent sprays (they hate the smell)
⸻
🚨 What to watch for:
• Warning lights (airbag, drivetrain, electrical)
• Strange electrical issues
• Unusual smells or debris inside the vehicle
⸻
At Precision BMW, we’re seeing this more and more.
If something feels off — don’t wait.
Catching it early can save thousands.
