We now have HP tuners!
HP Tuners is a professional-level, custom-calibration tool rather than a pre-loaded tuner, with its most used tunes focusing on optimizing GM LS/LT engines, diesel trucks (Duramax), and modern automatic transmissions (6L80/10L80). Common adjustments include adjusting fuel injector sizes, maximizing Volumetric Efficiency (VE) tables, and refining Power Enrichment (PE).
Most Common Tuning Areas & Adjustments:
Fuel Injector Data: Updating tables for aftermarket injectors is the first step in most custom tunes.
VE (Volumetric Efficiency) Tables: Crucial for speed-density tuning, mapping engine speed and manifold absolute pressure.
Power Enrichment (PE) & AFR: Setting Wide Open Throttle (WOT) fueling, typically targeting ~12:1 - 12.5:1 AFR for performance.
Spark Advance: Optimizing ignition timing, often 17-19° for supercharged applications, as noted on the HP Tuners Bulletin Board.
Torque Management & Transmission: Adjusting torque reduction settings and optimizing transmission shift points for better performance.
Idle & Airflow: Tuning base idle airflow for drivability after cam swaps, as discussed on the HP Tuners Bulletin Board.
Key Procedures:
Logging: Using VCM Scanner to log PIDs like MAF, fuel trims, and wideband O2 sensor data to inform adjustments.
Safety: Reducing timing initially, ensuring accurate wideband O2 data, and saving stock files before editing.
Support: The most common vehicles supported are GM (1997+), including performance cars and heavy-duty trucks.
