Did you know that an SCR (DEF component) on a Peterbilt cost around $10,000? This was a component that didn't exist on trucks before the EPA mandated it.
We have a truck in our shop right now and the repair bill is almost $17,000 because of a requirement mandated by the EPA. It is literally bankrupting drivers who are trying to make a living and feed their families. An owner operator cannot survive financially if their trucks are constantly in the shop for emission component failures. This wasn't an issue before the EPA made some really bad requirements.
The good news is President Trump, SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler, and her team are actively working to get rid of the EPA mandates that are destroying the industry and jobs. I have been in contact with their team regarding the EPA issues drivers face everyday. They are also looking at possibly restoring the glider truck program.
It isn't easy to tell a driver that he has to spend a massive amount of money for a repair because of something his government mandated that is unnecessary.
