Probably the first to actually suffer the axe of cancellation due to falling Pontiac excitement- thus sales- would be the little Fiero. We all know the story of what was wished for and what was delivered, but that hasn't stopped a small group from loving them and enjoying then too. Nor has it stopped others from dreaming of what they might have become if left to evolve the direction they were finally beginning to track towards. So, here we show some ideas from our Pontiac automotive designer member, Carlos Pinto in Portugal, that he would think the Fiero might have developed into. You gotta admit, every Pontiac performance lover would tip their hat to these.

Something looked strange as we were cruising the old interweb and came across this. No matter how many Coors have been packed away, it never sounded like someone was saying "Drowned" while singing along with the old Bandit. And rightfully so... this actually was a drowning- fortunately not of a person, but quite distressful nonetheless. A rather costly ($50K) lesson for someone. But all is not lost (well maybe to the insurance company) as there is a resurrection going on now, so it is sort of a happy ending. And, as we investigated a lot deeper into Pontiacs history, we have discovered that Pontiacs have sort of a propensity for water and "swimming accidents." Check out a number if very interesting photos of Pontiacs dipping their toes (and more) into the water.

We've all seen the junk yard beauties with the tree growing up where the engine used to be, but doubt any of them were as unique and rare as this particular "find." We say "find" like this because this '69 Judge was never really lost be be found. Rather it was known about forever, thought about for even longer, and finally agreed to be sold. Quite a story of determination and discovery... we'll let you read about it to find out what makes this car so special. Though this article was about the original owner and subsequent new owner, this car is now in the hands of another (one of our members) who has finally brought it back to life again and enjoying it in its original state.

By the late-70s the Pontiac Trans Am was still riding at the top of the heap performance-wise. But that didn't mean there wasn't more that could be done to put it over the top. That is where legendary Herb Adams came in with the FIRE AM. Recently we posted a magazine reprint on this particular conversion process and one of our members stepped forward with his own Fire Am and shared his story with us. It represents a life-long pursuit of the perfect Trans Am... and success in creating a magnificent example of being all you can be (to steal another group's saying).

Once again Old Cars magazine has featured a great old Pontiac- and this time quite a unique one, a "Service Car." For those not in the know, while there are many vehicles that are used for working duties, a "Service Car" most often is in reference to anything in the limousine, hearse, or other emergency or funeral service. And while some may find the subject kind of morbid, one has to admit, they are usually extremely unique, well crafted, and in this case, just plain good looking. We are sharing this story with you here.

We can't emphasize enough how Old Cars magazine is probably the premier source of all things auto hobby related, and if you can only subscribe to one magazine- make it Old Cars. You won't be disappointed.

Working on our old cars, we all know things get heavier, lower, and tighter with old age. But some things start out heavy and only get worst. Such as the trunk lids on the old cars before the days of torsion bars as in the '50s and on. This is what we faced with our 1940 Pontiac. Unfortunately, information of the addition of modern gas lift cylinders as on our new SUVs and hatchbacks was surprisingly slim-to-none. So, we figured it out ourselves and are sharing it here. With a little modification, the information will most likely help many with similar cars.

Get it...? Trans-Fire-Mation...? Transformation...? Oh, well, this May 1978 Super Stock magazine thought they had a pretty clever play on words going on here. And, giving them a little slack, you might say they were on the right track. After all, they were discussing the latest hot info out from the Herb Adams camp VSE- very Special Equipment for building one's Trans Am into a real street and track performer. And who better to reference than Mr. Trans Am himself? This information is as good today as it was 48 years ago if you are scooting around in a '70s Trans Am and want to make it even better. These VSE Trans Ams were actually called Fire Ams and if you find one today, hang onto it. You'll have something very special.

Like so much in our great old car hobby, this story is all about a passion that started early, went through a number of ups and downs, types and years of cars and trucks purchased, and ultimately landed on one of the writers favorite cars of all. What better way to sum this up than with the writer's own words: "This Pontiac Safari now represents much more than just a vehicle. It is the culmination of a journey that began half a century ago. Its rarity, its Canadian history, and the extensive research I conduct to document its origins make it a unique project. Over the years, I have come to understand that
collecting is not simply about owning classic cars. It is also about preserving their history, finding their original documents, understanding their journey, and passing this heritage on to future generations." We couldn't have said it any better!

For such a fledgling automotive manufacturer, it is amazing just how far and wide the Pontiac name and product reached. In this case clear down yonder (or Under) to Australia. Naturally there was a tight connection with Holden which had GM links for a long time, but it is still an interesting story of how Pontiac became an Aussie favorite. In this case, a 1929 Pontiac was chosen to begin a cab livery which grew with a family business into a huge bus and cab line. It is quite a story that spans many generations of a family with, of all names- "Driver." Pretty cool name to be linked so tightly to cars and buses.

An article we came across by the late-John Gunnell, Pontiac lover and well-known automotive writer and historian took on the discussion of why there aren't many Pontiac Hot Rods or Customs. While sharing John's work, we also took a deeper dive into a matter that has gotten even more confusing. That is Hot Rods vs. Street Rods vs. Customs vs. Pro Street vs. Pro Stock, and to even further confuse matters, vs. Resto Rods and Resto Mods. If some of our definitions help, great. If not, just build your car like you want and don't worry about what pigeon hole it may or may not fit into.
