Remediated a lithium battery installation on a triple outboard 36’ fishing boat. Issues included cross-connecting engine start batteries to the new lithium’s, no main fuse on the new batteries, insufficient capacity for DC-DC chargers, unsupported cables suspended over the battery compartment, 7 and 8 conductors on the battery terminals, and orange conductors used for both DC positive and negatives conductors.
Corrective actions included a Class T fuse for each battery, one DC-DC charger per outboard to minimize overload risk, bus bars to reduce connector count on terminals, new conductors that are long enough and standard color codes, and understanding and labeling what wire goes where.
