Troop 51 is back from nine unforgettable days in the high desert of New Mexico! Our Philmont crew hiked 60+ miles, climbed over 10,000 feet, and lived the full backcountry experience with dust, sweat, teamwork, and views you can’t capture in a photo.
We learned how to camp smart in bear country, helped with a conservation project to protect the forest from future wildfires, and stepped back in time to understand the tough lives of the miners and homesteaders who once worked these mountains.
And the activities? Absolutely epic. Blacksmithing. Rock climbing. Hatchet throwing. Black powder ri**es. A gold mine tour straight out of a history book.
Thank you to Philmont’s skilled, welcoming and passionate staff. They made every stop memorable.
This was a journey our Scouts and adult advisors will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Did you go to Philmont with Troop 51 or another crew? If so, when? Please share your memories in the comments.
