Long before that,

though, he was building his own racing go-carts and boats and "borrowing" his parents 1955 Chevy Bel-Air for late-night cruises down the drag in Nocona TX. He acquired the Nocona Chevrolet Oldsmobile dealership in 1979, moved to Bowie, TX in 1989 and in 1992 celebrated the opening of Lipscomb Chevrolet Buick GMC's present location at 14135 Hwy 287N. Richard's oldest son, Rik, started in the wash bay in 1979 and then selling cars in the early 90s and Richard soon handed over the the business to Rik so that he could focus more on restoring the family ranch on the Brazos River and work on his old cars. In 2006 Rik expanded the Lipscomb Dealerships franchise to include Pruitt Ford and Lipscomb Chevrolet in Burkburnett, TX and later added Lipscomb Powersports Can-Am, KTM & Bobcat in Wichita Falls, TX.
