The Silverado name started in 1975 as nothing more than a trim level on the C/K pickup. It did not become its own model until 1999. Fifty years later it is still going.

Chevy just put out a great story on that history told through Jeff Luke, a 40 year GM guy whose dad John also spent 40 years at GM starting back in 1952. In 1985 Jeff and his father ordered a C/K Silverado together in two tone cream and metallic brown. Top of the line at the time meant a 305 cubic inch V8, an AM/FM radio and crank windows. That was the premium truck.

Compare that to the next generation 2027 Silverado, which offers over 60 inches of total diagonal digital display including an 11.5 inch passenger screen, plus Super Cruise with trailering.

Chevy sold more than 580,000 light and heavy duty Silverados last year, the best sales year in five. That works out to one every 54 seconds.

Jeff's take on his old truck: he wishes he still had it. We hear that a lot around here.
