One common misunderstanding about vehicle titles is thinking the dealership keeps them.

Once the vehicle is registered and titled in the customer's name, the title goes where it is supposed to go. If the vehicle is financed, it is typically held by the lienholder. If the vehicle is paid for, the title is sent to the customer according to the state's process.
