A cautionary tale of what it requires to maintain high end suspension components. When dealing with control arms, coilovers and shocks designed for heavy abuse periodic maintenance is mandatory to keep everything happy and functioning at max performance. Unfortunately for the old Metal Tech 4runner, the PO decided to run everything into the ground. Good part everything is serviceable. The TOTAL CHAOS 2" LT kit will be getting all new uniballs and bushings, along with the Radflo Suspension Technology are getting the full rebuild treatment. When it's all said and done the new owner is going to experience a 4runner like he's never driven before bombing around in the snow up at Mt Hood.

Flashback to 14 years ago, this 2011 4Runner was a Metal Tech flagship rig I personally built. Everyone of our Toyotas was painted T308 Orange which originated from the 72-74 era FJ55 Land Cruiser. We ended up selling it around 2014/15 and to my surprise it had been sitting up at Government Camp where the new owner acquired it. Unfortunately this old 4Runner was ran hard and put away wet. Good news the owner found the guy who knows this 4Runner inside and out.

Back in the late 00s and early 10s we were big into long travel suspension. Upfront is a TOTAL CHAOS 2" LT kit, spindle gussets and cam tab gussets, with Radflo Suspension Technology 2.5" remote reservoir coilovers, and 2.5" secondary remote reservoir shocks. In the rear at Metal Tech we came up our own long travel rear suspension utilizing a dual rate spring which allowed for a lot of down travel paired with custom shocks to our specs using Radflo Suspension Technology 2.5" remote reservoir shocks. Also at the time the offset lower links were developed to help clear the axle tube at full down travel which is now widely copied across the Toyota industry. Another unique item is the metal grill with a Rigid light bar that our 4Runner was used to test fit the final prototype before going into production.

There's a lot of history with this rig from being showcased at SEMA to all over the western US for Toyota Off Road events. This old gal needs a lot of love but it's in the right hands to get her road worthy again.

It's been a minute since I've built a bumper from my Metal Tech days. Kinda like riding a bicycle, little bumpy at first and then muscle memory kicks in. My customer wanted a high clearance winch capable bumper, so we went with one from Coastal Offroad along work a 10,000lb WARN Industries | Since 1948 VR EVO winch.

Oil pan gaskets can be the bane of one's existence on these old FJ40s. Georg, the man himself was taught by an old cruiser legend Butch, of Mudrak on how to seal these pans for good. It's time consuming... but with some copper gasket spray, meticulous torque sequencing and a drop of red loctite will cure any potential oil leaks.

Little cv shaft rebuild tech. Biggest mistake people make is not catching a torn boot in time and are forced to either buy a subpar aftermarket replacement or spend the $$$ on a factory Toyota cv. The best option is to spend the money to get a factory Toyota boot kit and rebuild your stock cv's. If you've ever rebuilt a birfield on LC or mini truck axle, it is practically the same with a few more steps.

Over 15 years ago, I developed these sliders for the 100 Series Land Cruiser and LX470. Long time friend and customer Uzj100 came in for a rear spring swap and a routine diagnoses of minor fixes to be made next week. It's always nice seeing sliders, bumpers, links, roll cages, etc I personally welded still going strong and taking a beating after all these years.
