ANDERSON VALLEY, Calif. โ The Anderson Valley and greater Mendocino County community continue to mourn the tragic loss of longtime logger Ed Walker, who was killed on June 24, 2026, when the logging truck he was driving left the roadway and struck a redwood tree along Highway 128.
In the days following the crash, hundreds of friends, neighbors, coworkers, and fellow loggers have shared an outpouring of grief, remembrance, and support for Walker's family. Their messages paint the picture of a man remembered not only for his decades in the logging industry, but for his kindness, generosity, humor, and unwavering dedication to those around him.
Many described Walker as "a man with a heart of gold," someone who would "give you the shirt off his back," and a person who never hesitated to help others. Fellow loggers remembered him as a respected coworker, dependable friend, and hardworking professional who took immense pride in his work. Others shared memories of hearing his familiar truck horn as he drove through the valley, waving to neighbors, or simply enjoying conversations and laughter with him over the years.
The loss has been deeply felt throughout Anderson Valley, with many calling it "a huge loss for the logging community" and saying there is now "a missing piece in the valley."
The community also rallied together helping search for Walker's beloved dog, Tommy, who ran from the scene after the collision. Tommy was later found and reunited with family.
Ed's daughter, Sheena Walker, also shared a heartfelt message thanking the community for its overwhelming support. She described her father as "the best human being I've ever met" and said she felt blessed to call him dad. She said he loved driving his log truck, took tremendous pride in his work, and was known for always being a safe and respectful driver. Calling the crash a "horrible, horrible tragedy," Sheena said she, her sister, and their entire family are beyond heartbroken. She expressed gratitude for every prayer, message, and act of kindness shown to their family, adding that anyone able to assist with funeral expenses is appreciated, while those who are unable can still help by sharing the fundraiser and keeping the family in their thoughts and prayers.
