Would you like me to explain to you how I met Joe Mondello (The Legend)... after my Mother and Father separated after all their yrs my Father rented an apartment up on Montana Street in Santa Monica, California ( Santa Monica is where this all took place) and one day in July of 1973 I went to see my dad at his new apartment I pulled in and my dad was standing with another Man talking outside so I walked up my Dad introduced me to Joe yes it was Joe Mondello I'd never heard of him ( the apartments were owned by Joe at the time) so we're talking and Joe asked me if I'd like to come to work for him at his shop there in Santa Monica I said yes he said I'll train you to build competition racing cylinder heads I said Wow 😲 so I went to his shop I was trained and after a year I was getting good at it .. Joe treated me so good in the 9 yrs I was with him he paid me $2. 85 an hour this was 1973 I got dollar an hr raises twice by 1979 I was making about 9 something I left Joe at the end of 1979 and went on to do my own porting.
Joe took care of me, he taught me something when I was younger 20 and it stayed with me it was my skill for the next 35 years.

Hey 👋 remember me it's been a long time since I've done a box of manifolds yeah it has...I miss my days at the bench and working for a living at my own leisure, living good 👍 I had it all back then.
My page is still up...Thanks Facebook for keeping it active, I spent many years in the high performance auto industry I've ported and polished and done the chambers on many a cylinder head everything from Harley Davidson.. Volkswagen to the 426 Hemi/ cast iron and aluminum.
In 1973 I went to work for Joe Mondello and we all know who he was...he taught me how to be the best and I was, he used to call me Perfect Paul and that meant a lot coming from Joe, I wanted to do my very best for him and I tried hard, there were times when Joe and I would come into the shop on a Saturday and knock out some work me grinding and Joe doing valve jobs it was nice just being able to spend those times with Joe just me and him.
He's gone now but never forgotten

Hi everyone I still take a look at my work page once in awhile retirement days are here after 55 yrs of machining that I enjoyed and brought joy to the world I did my mankind for the racing industry and proud of being so productive.
