It’s a bittersweet afternoon but has left the building.

After nearly two years of restoration at my shop in Bolivar, LP’s last personal ride has officially been returned to Terry Phillips Racing.

It’s very close to being 100% completed and pending Terry’s very busy upcoming racing schedule, we’ll finish it up as time permits. It’s been a fun and rewarding project but it was time to switch gears and return home. I’m thankful, honored and humbled that TP and his family trusted me to get it as far as I have. LP and this car mean everything to me and I wouldn’t be where I am in racing if not for LP and TP. I know I’ve finally run out of talent on my own so it needs TP’s final touches to finish it off.

Now let’s FINALLY get LARRY PHILLIPS in the NASCAR Hall of Fame and maybe they’ll let us display it in Charlotte. 🏁

Ten nominees appear on the Modern Era ballot, five on the Pioneer ballot – designed to honor those whose careers began more than 60 years ago. Two Modern Era candidates and one Pioneer candidate will be elected as the Class of 2026.

Special Thanks to Dennis Schoenfeld and the entire team at Schoenfeld Headers for coming through with a fantastic set of headers and downstream exhaust for the project.

We’ve got to do a bit of fine tuning to weld up all the nut/bolt clamp brackets and trim the tailpipe but what a huge improvement.

We got the front driveshaft yolk changed for use with the Muncie Transmission. The driveshaft is in and it fits perfectly.

I’ve also been able to source a carb, power steering pump bracket and a few other misc parts from TPR as we keep trying to check things off of our list.

Last but not least, how about that OG Sportsman 75 hat out of LP’s personal collection! 😎

Now that we got the pretty body pics out of the way the other day while the sun was shining, it was back to reality today on a cold gloomy Sunday as I continue to bolt on and solve any remaining mechanical issues on .

Harbor Freight to the rescue today, as I needed a helping hand to get the transmission in and this little scissor jack worked great. These transmissions are heavy and it’s a tight fit going up like all pavement cars but I think it should all work fine (as long as the internals of transmission are good). I did have to take the shifter linkage off so i took lots of pics to be sure i got it back just how Bill Crooks designed it. 😉

I bolted the straight Hurst shifter in that was on this transmission but it’s not the right one. Need some sort of curved one. Will have to do a little research to figure out what we need there.

I also bolted up the starter and tracked down the starter hot wire in the insulation. I think the driveshaft will work, we just have to switch out the yoke.

The Schoenfeld Headers are also in at TPR so I’ll grab them this this week and see how they fit. 🏁

I’ve been looking for about two years to find another one of these 1/24th scale Sportsman Diecast cars. Unbelievably I found one reasonably priced on eBay in Bolivar!

I also bought the one. Wish I had that real GRT car to restore. 🧐

PS-Don’t mind Donald the shop cat, he’s just checking ‘em out. 🐈🏁
