🇺🇸 Happy Veterans Day to all who have served our country with honor — including one of our own, May River Boat Detailing’s owner Alex Matos.

Alex served aboard the USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) as a Boatswain’s Mate, where he later qualified as a Master Helmsman.

What does that mean exactly? A Master Helmsman operates the ship’s helm (steering wheel) and keeps the ship on course— especially during critical moments like underway replenishment, mooring, or navigating narrow channels. ⚓️

He was also responsible for the care and operation of the ship’s search and rescue boats.

Here is Alex steering the 843-foot amphibious assault ship, which carried about 3,000 men and women— a mix of Sailors and Marines. Out of everyone on board, only a few were qualified to man the helm.

We think that’s pretty incredible!
